The Loyola Men's Soccer team kept up their strong play over the weekend with a big 2-0 win over Iona and a 0-0 tie against Fairfield on Senior Day.

The Iona match was all Loyola's from the start, with the Hounds limiting the number of decent chances the Gaels had.

The Hounds to a 1-0 lead in the first half off of a Daniel Ankrah laser to the top corner after a rebound bounced back to him.

The second half got under way without much for Kyle Wittman to do in the Loyola goal besides pulling down the occasional cross from time to time.

Jamie Darvill then sent the game to 2-0 in the 71st minute after a perfect through ball by Wade McHugh sent him in on a breakaway. Darvill coolly chipped the keeper, killing off any hopes Iona had of a comeback.

On Sunday, the Hounds played host to rival Fairfield on Senior Day for Darvill, Tennant McVea, Joey Dussault and Jonathan "Pancho" Navas.

The Hounds staunch defense held Fairfield to few opportunities, and the attack was unlucky to put one on the board in the 120 minutes of play.

"Friday we played some of our best soccer of the year and came out with a great result against a quality side," said Wittman.

"Today, we played very well again against Fairfield and were unlucky to get three points after fighting very hard and playing some attractive soccer."

The Hounds will need to keep playing well as they close out their regular season schedule on the road next weekend against St. Peter's and Manhattan. The Hounds currently sit atop the table in the MAAC for the first time all year.
