I wholeheartedly and completely agree with this thoughtfully written essay. Too many young people (of my generation and younger) litter their speech with qualifiers and acceptance-seeking words--"verbal fillers" one of my acting teachers used to call them. This problem is especially noticeable in girls and young women who speak every sentence with a question mark at the end, their high-pitched voices tilting up, forever asking if their opinions are correct. I am so thankful that Jerard has brought this problem to light, and I hope that everyone who reads this article accepts his challenge and changes their speech patterns to reflect more confidence in their thoughts and words.
