Local indie rock is becoming increasingly popular in the college scene. The Recher Theatre in Towson is one of those genuinely perfect venues for such bands. This past Friday night (2/1), the local band Bravo Romeo Bravo were the headliners at the Recher and gave an extremely memorable performance.

BRB was formed in May of 2006, and has been a hit with all of their audiences since. They give a great onstage presence, and really encourage the crowd to feel the music. They sang many songs from their new "Twilight" EP, expressing new memorable songs for the crowd. I found both the music and the lyrics very entrancing. The band's creative use of guitar riffs and constant beat of the drums and bass kept the crowd alert and completely focused on them. Their music reminded me of a mix of old school Fall Out Boy, Finger Eleven and Paramore (minus the female singer). While observing the crowd, I found that the song "This Is Your Pilot Speaking…" was definitely the favorite of the set.

The band ended the set with a song from their new EP entitled "Excess Progress." These lyrics were written by Dan Ciarrocchi, and the almost haunting lines of "Where do I stand if there's nothing but broken ground? /Our wills and callouses are broken/We're imprisoned and bound" can definitely speak to a variety of audiences.

Not surprisingly, three of the five members have been students here at Loyola: Dan Walker, Dan Ciarrocchi, and J.W. Sargent. Each of these band members brought something to the table. Dan W. gave his all onstage; I could tell he really felt the music. Dan C. was an amazing guitar player, and a creative lyricist. J.W. was all over the stage, getting into everything, all the while encouraging the crowd to participate.

I found their set to be very catchy, and I wanted to hear more. They love playing shows, and from what I saw on Friday, I found that it was pretty apparent.
