Last Wednesday Loyola basketball's assistant coach Brian Blaney announced the signing of Fletch Williams, the No. 1 player in the class of 2026, according to Rivals.com.
Williams has chosen Loyola after a long recruiting battle with UNC, Louisville and Northridge Nursey School. When asked why he choose Loyola over traditional powers Williams giggled and continued to chew on the ear of his favorite stuffed animal Whiskers.
Despite his current size -- six pounds -- and lack of maturity -- 11 months old -- Rivals.com's Tom Davidson claims Williams has tremendous upside.
"Williams posses court vision that few NBA stars have, let alone 11 month year olds, plus he plays with a youthfulness that makes it seem as if he's always having fun out there," Davidson said. "Fletch Williams is the closest to a sure thing I have ever seen. We'll see him in Springfield, Mass., before it ís all over."
His commitment to Loyola came after an unofficial visit where he met the team and student body. During a pick-up game with the current team Williams went 8-for-10 from three-point range before nap time.
"Fletch is a great guy and really going to help out the class of '26," Loyola senior Gerald Brown said. "His raw athleticism and range at such a young age blew us away. I look forward to watching him in a Greyhound uniform in 18 years."
Loyola's press conference introducing Williams is on Friday at 3 pm in Reitz Arena.

In other MAAC news the Providence Friars are joining the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference in all sports due to being unceremoniously thrown out of the Big East due to lack of competitiveness. Preseason basketball polls have them finishing just below St. Peter's College at sixth place in the conference. Gerald Brown is happy.
