Keeping with last week's theme and in preparation for the highly anticipated Greyhound/Green & Grey forum this coming Wednesday, I thought it would be appropriate to take this opportunity to discuss what exactly the role of a student-run, college newspaper is.

Some may think (and hope) that each year, the paper will remain the same. Unfortunately for them, with each year comes a new staff, changing the direction and slant of the paper. The content and theme of each section will ienvitably change, and of course, there will (again, inevitably) be articles that some people do not like. This is the wonder of a college newspaper.

With this constant change in mind, the ways in which article ideas are selected and topics are covered remains relatively the same. We report on what we are told and experience. If people have an idea or opinion, they come to us. If we are noticing something happening around campus, we write about it. However, it is important to note that in doing this, the paper does not and will not represent the individual opinions of a person or group. Our job is to report and then inform the Loyola community of what is going on around campus and within the student body, not what we think of it. If someone has an opinion, it fittingly is placed in the Opinions section.

The problem arises when individuals disagree with the content on which we are reporting. However, they must understand that whether the topic is good or bad, provocative or conservative, we are going to report on it. Everyone may not always like what we have to say, but that is par for the course.

We encourage those that take issue with things in the Greyhound to attend the forum on Wednesday so their voices can be heard and concerns addressed.
