Despite their loss to LaSalle last week the Loyola Swimming and Diving squad has much to feel confident about. Recently, Junior Abby Wiese was named the MAAC Student-Athlete of the week. To add to her accomplishments in the pool, Abby is also a Sellinger Scholar with a 3.7 GPA.
On the men's side the MAAC also honored junior Brennan Morris as the swimmer of the week for the sixth time this season. Earlier this year, Morris became the new Loyola record holder for the 500-yard freestyle.
This meet against the Mountaineers of Mount Saint Mary's is crucial. The regular season is coming to an end, and the MAAC Championships are closing in. While the team's focus is strictly on this next meet, the team has got to be excited for what is to come next.
On Feb. 16, the Greyhounds will be traveling up to Buffalo, N.Y., with the hopes to snag a MAAC Title. Loyola has a squad fully capable of winning the MAAC this year. With Brennan Morris leading the way for the men and Abby Wiese for the women, the sky is the limit.
Just because it is not Olympics does not mean that the swimming and diving are any less exciting. Loyola has a squad with more than enough talent and discipline to entertain.
Loyola is on the rise in athletics across the board, and everyone on the campus is aware of it. Let us, the students and fans of the Greyhounds, get behind our swim team as they near the end of their season.
Although the season is basically over and you crazy members of Hound nation may not have been able to check out the swim team this year, you do not have to be upset. Next season will be filled with just as much if not more unreal swimming. With Wiese and Morris returning for their senior years, the Greyhounds will be even more dominant in the lanes.
